Fripp Design and Research were invited to participate in the Silverstone Design Challenge. The Silverstone Innovation Centre Design Challenge was open to school students aged 11 to18, working in teams to design new products for the motorsport industry and solve engineering challenges. Categories include a challenge to design a Formula One car for the year 2020 and a Formula Fashion challenge to design an outfit for a motorsport team.
At the Grand Final, which was modelled on the Dragons Den television programme, the shortlisted teams gave presentations to a judging panel of senior figures from the motorsport industry and local businesses.
For the overall winner, Fripp Design and Research are providing mentorship to the winning team in helping to develop their idea further. The winning school was Carlton Le Willows in Nottingham for their project "Air" an innovative electromagnetic powered hover car.
Each team received a custom liveried scalextric car with the sponsors logo.
